Bill’s new book is hot off the press!
The sequel to Bill Mackie’s popular book, The Oilmen – the North Sea Tigers, is published this month.
The Klondykers – the Oilmen Onshore, focuses on the considerable impact the oil and gas industry has had on communities around Scotland since the first ‘men in Stetsons’ arrived in Aberdeen in the late 1960s, and tells the fascinating story through a diverse range of people who experienced it first-hand.
Underpinning the anecdotes is a considerable body of research which Bill, a historian and former television and newspaper journalist, produced when working on his doctoral thesis during the 1990s. He also drew on his own experience of the industry’s growth in Scotland, having reported on its major milestones throughout his career.
