Bill
Gains Doctorate For Oil and Gas Research
A career-long interest in issues close to the heart of Europes
oil and gas capital, has culminated in a PhD for M&M Media associate
Bill Mackie.
Bill, who has spent more than 40 years as a newspaper and television
journalist in Aberdeen, completed his doctoral thesis, The Impact of
North Sea Oil on the North-East of Scotland 1969-2000, and graduates
this autumn from the University of Aberdeen.
"Ive covered the development of the oil and gas industry in
the area since I was a young newspaper reporter and it has always held
a great deal of fascination for me," he says.
"Researching and writing the thesis was a seven year labour of love.
I learned an enormous amount about this incredible industry but more importantly
I was proud to discover just how well the people of the North East have
coped virtually on their own - with the biggest invasion in Scottish
industrial history."
