Creative community magazine wins UK excellence award
for second year running
M&M Media partners Judy Mackie and Allan Montgomery have won a prestigious national award for the second year running, for their community magazine, Midstocket Matters.
The My Mag UK Community Magazine of the Month award was presented to the Aberdeen-based business after the magazine was judged to have made a valuable contribution to the local community.
The award was presented by Sue Botterill, founder of MyMag (www.mymaguk.com), which has inspired the launch of more than 800 community magazines around the UK.
Midstocket Matters, distributed each month to around 2,300 homes, local businesses, schools, community centres and other organisations in Aberdeen, was recognised by the award for its quality content, design and layout.
The magazine, which is well supported by local business advertisers and sponsors, carries regular features catering for a wide variety of ages and interests, with a particular focus on neighbourhood planning, community council matters, health and wellbeing, community education, food, local history, poetry and puzzles.
Bill Cormie, Chairman of the Rosemount and Mile End Community Council, said: “Midstocket Matters is a real asset because of its high quality design and editorial. It has helped our Community Council communicate with residents to fight off unwanted planning applications together as one. We also have more residents attending our meetings and new members have joined us, due to our coverage in the magazine.
“Folk genuinely look forward to Midstocket Matters dropping through their door every month. It helps us all understand our community better and directs us to various organisations which many of us would not have known existed.
“Finally, it has helped tremendously that the couple who produce this magazine not only live in our community, but also play an active part in helping make our community a happier, healthier and more pleasant place to live, work and play.”
Judy Mackie and Allan Montgomery are partners in M&M Media, an established creative communication business providing quality editorial services to corporate clients. They launched Midstocket Matters as their own publishing venture in December 2005.
