M&M Media scores magazine hat trick
Aberdeen-based creative communications business M&M Media has won the MyMag UK Community Magazine of the Month Award for the third year running for its monthly publication, Midstocket Matters.
This year’s award was made following the magazine’s successful launch of Rosemount Rocks! – a schools-community initiative aimed at fostering community spirit, promoting the social, economic and environmental benefits of shopping locally, and giving youngsters the opportunity to find out first-hand about the unique character of Rosemount.
Around 70 pupils from Mile End and Skene Square primary schools worked together to create a local shoppers’ guide explaining why ‘Christmas is cool in Rosemount’. Their progress was reported in Midstocket Matters and the leaflet launch was celebrated at a community event at the Aberdeen Environmental Education Centre, Rosemount, last December. Local Councillor Bill Cormie commented at the time: “I think the project is absolutely fantastic. Midstocket Matters is helping people realise the quality that’s in Rosemount and how important it is to keep local shops and local produce in their community.”
M&M Media partners Judy Mackie and Allan Montgomery launched Midstocket Matters in December 2005, as their business contribution to the community in which they live and work.
“Readers tell us that our magazine keeps them in touch with local people, issues and events, and that it’s helping them to source a variety of services close to home,” says Judy. “We saw a great opportunity to develop this further by introducing a project for schools that would help children understand more about their local community and why it’s so important to support it.”
Allan adds: “We’re thrilled that the magazine has once again achieved national recognition from MyMag, an organisation that has inspired the recent development of more than 700 community magazines throughout the UK.”
